It's party time! Monica Bellucci shows off a hint of cleavage in semi-sheer black gown as Lea Seydoux sports pink floral minidress at Spectre bash

They pulled out all of the fashion stops for the world premiere of Spectre earlier in the evening.
And it looked as though Bond girls Monica Bellucci and Lea Seydoux were only starting as they intended to go on as the continued their glamorous turn at the movie's official after-party, held at the British Museum in London on Monday night.
Proving one show-stopping dress is never enough, Monica was sure to turn heads for the second time as she later slipped into a black floor-length gown.
Gorgeous: Proving one show-stopping dress is never enough, Monica was sure to turn heads for the second time as she later slipped into a black floor-length gown for the Spectre after-party
The tight design boasted mesh fabric around the shoulders and the top of the bust, as well as around the elbows and inner arms.
Highlighting her curvaceous silhouette, the form-fitting gown caressed Monica's stunning curves before billowing down to the floor.
Her brunette locks were still styled in the same elegant waves she sported earlier in the evening, her make-up look still comprised of a dark smokey eye and nude lipstick.
Flower power: A little more understated than the glitzy gold gown she donned on the red carpet looked gorgeous in a collared floral pink gown which was emblazoned with jewels and mesh sleeves

Why I'll never dress up with my kids on Halloween again

I tried. I really did. I tried to be that awesome, fun mom who dresses up on Halloween with her kids. So, a few years ago, I did it. And I will never do it again.
When my twins were 3 years old, I decided to dress up with them to go trick-or-treating. It was the first year that they understood what Halloween meant and that what it meant was candy. They were excited, and I wanted to add to that excitement by dressing up as a penguin.

On Halloween you'll see photos of families dressed up together: They're all superheroes, or characters from a fairy tale, or the kids are hot dogs and their parents are ketchup and mustard. When parents are willing to wear spandex in public for their kids, you have to respect that. I am not that brave, however, so I looked for something silly and baggy that my kids would think was funny. And that's how I found a penguin in a bow tie:
I loved this costume — it's not a sexy penguin, or a penguin wearing something distasteful like a denim pantsuit, it's a distinguished penguin with a penchant for conservative neckwear. That's the kind of penguin I can get down with.

On Halloween night I Velcroed on my costume, straightened my bow tie, and went out to greet my family. My children were ecstatic. My husband was ashamed. I was ready to paint the town penguin.

More: 8 Needlessly sexy Halloween costumes for little girls

Off we went to the local country club, which is widely known as the place where they give out the good candy. Sure, sometimes you get a sugar-free lollipop and a toothbrush, but most of the time you get full-sized Hershey bars, so it's worth the risk.

I knew almost immediately after stepping out of the car that I had made an error: I was the only trick-or-treating adult dressed in costume. I don't mean I was one of two or three. I mean I was one of one among hundreds of people. I wouldn't have thought it was possible to be that far off the mark, but I was. I came as a penguin, and all the other parents came as drunk.

Now, I'm not someone who embarrasses easily. I have little to no shame. And that night, when I was flopping around with my penguin feet and sweating through my penguin hood, what I felt wasn't embarrassment, it was jealousy. The other parents looked so comfortable strolling around with their regular pants, comfortable shoes, and drinks in hand. Guess who couldn't hold a drink? Me. Because I had flippers.

About 30 minutes into the evening, I was over it. The novelty had worn off. Most of the people I saw that night — from babies to the elderly — were confused by my costume. They looked to see if there was some kind of a common theme between my costume and my children's, but given that my children were dressed as a fairy and a ninja, it would have taken a lot of creativity to fit a penguin into that story. Some laughed and enjoyed it, and then there were teenagers, who just laughed because they are the worst.

More: I'm tired of Halloween becoming a teen skankfest

After I put the kids to bed that night, I threw out my costume, stole all the Kit Kats from the kids' stashes, and decided that I would not be dressing up on Halloween again. Seeing me in costume was a lot of fun for my kids, but only for about 10 minutes; that's because they were 3 years old, and what they cared about was M&M's.

The most important parts of Halloween are that my kids have fun, that they get a lot of Kit Kats for Mom, and that I'm able to take them through the night with a good attitude. What I've learned is that they are going to have fun regardless of whether or not I am a penguin, and I am going to have fun in comfortable clothes.

And a gin and tonic in a travel mug doesn't hurt, either.

Nevena Couture’s top 5 rules for evening dress code in London

London is a magnificently fast-paced city, which naturally combines business, fashion, the arts, and “time-out” culture. There is always a gala-dinner, exhibition opening, charity event, or evening ball. What differentiates London from other vibrant capital cities can be found in its strong English tradition, giving a special recognizable flair to British society.
Strict, detailed dress code for most evening events is ever present. Whether white tie or black tie for the evening, or cocktail versus smart casual for day parties, they all dictate the style of dress. Some day parties still expect ladies to wear a hat, even for a Sunday lunch. Having said that, the “spotless” dress policy in England requires awareness of small, but still meaningful rules, characterizing the society we live in.
Women are emotional beings and clothes play an important role in self-representation. Evening dresses are a particular signature item for women. They can be the most inspiring fashion item and give women the opportunity to express femininity and charm.
The desire to discover something both radiant and striking for the upcoming season inspired FinBuzz to present the Bulgarian Personal Couture London-based designer, Nevena Nikolova. A sophisticated young woman with a bright appearance, an intellectual mind, creative soul, entrepreneurial spirit and obvious charisma has shared with FinBuzz the concept behind the Haute Couture collection and the chronology of her creations in the arena of fashion.
FB: How long have you been in the industry and what has influenced you as a designer?
I founded the brand back in 2001 in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, my home country I left when I moved to London three years ago. I still have one boutique in Sofia and as you can see one here in London, in the renowned Belgravia neighbourhood
My fashion path was very natural, organic, as I have always been amazed by haute couture. Influenced by Dior and Audrey Hepburn, I fell in love with craftsmanship. It used to be my hobby, which I consciously developed into my primary business.
By profession, I am a linguist, with a major in Scandinavian languages. Being a successful student, I got a grant and went to work in Norway. Working as a translator, I was still looking for something special in terms of clothes, something which reflected a woman’s femininity and I was never attracted to mass-fashion or ready-to-wear garments. Also, working with different cultures, I learned how to transmit a message from one language to another. I worked with social phenomena and developed cross-cultural virtues. All of these invaluable experiences suggested that I should start “speaking” through dresses and couture. I believe I tell stories through my clothes to my customers.
So what is the story of the season? And how many collections per year do you have?
I never do seasonal stuff. There is one collection per year, which is constantly refreshed with new couture creations. For our clients, we usually organize small events, where we present my new masterpieces and talk to them. Each and every client represents an entire special universe for me. Dress creation for me is more than just creating a garment following modern trends. I always dress a mind, rather than a body. The body can be easily modified, while the mind usually grows or develops together with you. It is ‘experience’ which I put into my dresses.
How can you categorize your dresses and what is your favourite colour?
My favourite colour is one which suits my clients. I do a lot of black, which can be good for cocktail, sexy or statement dress. Because I work a lot with lace I never have plain black. It is all about structure and shades or shiny effects.
I touch my dresses and incorporate a lot of craftsmanship. It is a really up-scaled and unique technology, which is rarely seen nowadays.
What are your future plans as a designer in the Haute Couture industry? Do you plan to develop the business globally?
I have chosen London as the place to be, where fashion meets business. I am thinking about a Premium Couture line in the near future to be sold in boutiques or premium high-end stores. It is an organic development of my brand.
Nevena Couture collection includes a large variety of dresses, wearable for any evening event. There are cocktail dresses, ball gowns, evening garments as well as wedding dresses. A dress by Nevena is a piece of art, the work of hundreds of hours of hand-stitching, artisan craftsmanship and precious materials, including the finest of French lace and Italian silk.
From the numerous eveningwear trends of fall-winter 2016, Nevena personifies authentic baroque style. Together with evening garments it is recommended wearing any type of quirky accessories with a matching evening clutch bag. Shoes made from patent leather or silk or perhaps more ornate shoes encrusted in stones are preferable for the evening events. The important part of women’s obligation also is to contribute to the ‘mood’ and the sociability, because behind the style and glamour, there is always a woman.

Ruby Rose Hosts 2015 MTV EMAs Injured & Jokes About Looking Like Justin Bieber

Ruby Rose blows a fire gun on stage during the MTV EMA's 2015 at the Mediolanum Forum on October 25, 2015 in Milan, Italy.

The theme for the MTV EMAs in Milan Sunday night was “cute and badass” with Ed Sheeran holding up cuddly props throughout the night while his co-host Ruby Rose opted for fire slingers and arm wrestling.

Yet what the global audience watching didn’t know, was that Rose’s badass act was hardly an act. The bombshell actress came limping onto the red carpet in a black satin tuxedo with a matching cane, with an injury fresh off of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, which has been shooting in Cape Town, South Africa.

“I just got off of shooting an action film, hence the cane because I’ve torn my leg. I just tore my calf muscle five times, no big deal,” Rose joked to Hollywood Reporter.

But the actress didn’t seem bothered. “We got to do amazing things. Acting is just that genre where you get to do whatever you want.”

While many actresses later regret doing their own stunts, Rose doesn't seem to put herself in that boat. “I don’t regret that,” she said. “It adds to the character.”

In contrast to her “cute” co-host, Rose swapped outfits throughout the evening, keeping the stilettos on, despite her injury. And she even managed to poke fun at the frequent comments she gets that she looks like Justin Bieber.

When Rose interviewed the man of the hour, who took home a whopping five awards over the course of the night, they were dressed in identical red and white, although he was wearing slouching pants and a hoodie while she wore a silk blazer and greek-style cocktail dress. “I had 10 outfit changes tonight, and none of them were Bieber inspired!” she told him.

He responded, “I think you were copying me.”

Rose also spoke with Hollywood Reporter about how she chose her wardrobe for the night. She was slightly worried about the frequent costume changes, regardless of the injury: “I’m not Nicki Minaj. I don’t think I can pull it off, but we’re going to try,” she said.

“I like androgynous clothing but I’m using Armani and Versace and Schiaparelli and really beautiful European brands, and some great Milan brands,” she said of her fashion preferences. “I want to keep it classy and classical. I love Italian fashion. The Italians kind of get it pretty right.”

Colts, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Honor Nashville "Angel"

The Indianapolis Colts are proud to announce Allison Watters, a Nashville, Ind. resident, as a 2015 honoree of the Colts Anthem Angels program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

The Indianapolis Colts are proud to announce Allison Watters, a Nashville, Ind. resident, as a 2015 honoree of the Colts Anthem Angels program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Watters will be recognized at the Colts home game this Sunday, October 25, 2015, for her outstanding contributions to the community.

Watters has played a special role in one of the most memorable nights of high school for young women in her community. Every spring she holds the Brown County Glass Slipper Event to provide prom dresses and accessories to students at no cost. Allison started the event in 2007 with 3 volunteers and 140 dresses, and was able to provide 25 girls from Brown County with prom attire. The event has grown to include 150 volunteers and 2,400 dresses in 2014, providing 300 girls from all over the State of Indiana a dress for prom night.

Allison brings in volunteer stylists to instruct the girls on how to do their hair and makeup, which can be recorded for a personalized step-by-step tutorial.  In addition, volunteer seamstresses are present to recommend alterations to each dress as needed. Through Allison’s continued efforts and donations from the community, the event has expanded to offer shoes, jewelry, and purses to young women for prom night.

“Anthem Angels…Honoring Everyday Heroes” was established by the Indianapolis Colts and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield to pay tribute to Hoosier “First Respondents” who may have received little or no recognition for the strides they have made to help others in human-service related professions.

Get the look! Frankie Essex brings back the prom dress at Sleek launch party!

TOWIE's Frankie Essex proved that prom dresses are the new bodycon when she stepped out in this oh-so-glamourous printed number at the Sleek MakeUP 24K Gold Launch party in London yesterday evening dress!

The reality beauty rubbed shoulders withDesi Rascals star Jasmin Walia, CBB's Chloe Goodman and Made in Chelsea's Stephanie Pratt but she pipped all them to the post when it came to the style stakes.
Frankie looked outrageously gorgeous in the dip-hem cocktail dress that boasted negative print detail and a plunging back as she posed up a storm for the paparazzi before joining the rest of her celebrity pals for a drink and a natter.

But the best part is that you can snap up an exact match over at Chi Chi London and for a purse-pleasing £54.99 it's bound to become your Christmas party staple. Never too to plan ahead, right?
Of course, Frankie's locks were styled to perfection and she opted for a stunning ponytail of cascading curls offset by a sassy, 60s style beehive with oodles of volume at the crown. You can take the girl outta Essex...

The blonde babe teamed her eye-catching dress with a bold pair of cobalt blue pointed courts and her trusty shoulder bag - Chanel of course - throwing over a black waterfall jacket to keep off the chill when the star studded bash came to an end.

Is Laura Marano Designing Her Own Line of Prom Dresses?

Is Laura Marano hard at work designing and modeling your dream prom or Homecoming dress? It appears that the Austin & Ally actress is working with dress brand Sherri Hill in a majorly stylish way. Mom Ellen Marano shared a behind-the-scenes snap of Laura rocking a hot pink and black tulle gown, and teased that she's working on a special project with the company!

"Laura shooting her line of dresses for Sherri Hill. @sherrihill @lauramarano," Ellen wrote on Instagram along with the above pic.

We're not sure if Laura is designing her own dress styles or modeling the latest looks from the brand in a new campaign – the way stars like Bella Thorne have done in the past – but either way, the photos already coming out of the shoot are amazing. If you look closely, you can spy an emerald green and lovely red dress in the back of the photo that are just as glam as the fuchsia version.

Laura even shared a bunch of fun selfies she snapped on photo shoot day, so clearly she's having a blast with this project.
"Shot photos for some new @sherrihill dresses today 😏😏😏😏 and then I had a mini photoshoot in the bathroom because, you know, why not?" Laura shared on Instagram along with a collage of said selfies.

Are you excited to see the photos from Laura's new campaign? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Lea Thompson still owns 'Back to the Future' prom dress

"Back to the Future" star Lea Thompson still owns the pastel pink prom dress her character wore in the film's Enchantment Under the Sea dance sequence.

Three decades after the film launched a beloved time-travelling franchise, and as fans celebrate Back to the Future Day on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, the actress reveals she got to retain her Lorraine Baines outfit and has kept it under lock and key ever since.

"I can't get in it any more," she tells People. "It was so tight! It was tight at the time, but now it's really, really tight.

"It was beautifully made, and made to order for me. It's got a low-drop waist, and the way it was cut was just so beautiful. And it's still in great shape. I've still got the shoes. The shoes are even hard to get on now--my big old feet--from having babies.

"When we shot the big dance--the Enchantment Under the Sea dance--it was so tight, I just took it off. I would wander around in my crinolines and my push-up bra. My mom was just scandalized, because of course there were, like, hundreds of extras, but I didn't care. I was just walking around without my dress on."

Back to the Future Day marks the exact date in 2015 that Michael J. Fox's hero, Marty McFly, was transported to in the "Back to the Future" sequel.

30 Years Later, Lea Thompson Still Has Her Iconic Back to the Future Prom Dress

After all these years, Lea Thompson still has that dress.

As fans celebrate Back to the Future Day on Wednesday, Thompson tells PEOPLE she still has the '50s-style pastel pink prom dress she wore as part of the first film's Enchantment Under the Sea Dance.

"I can't get in it any more, though," she tells PEOPLE with a chuckle. "It was so tight! It was tight at the time, but now it’s really, really tight."

But that doesn't mean she doesn't still love it.

"It was beautifully made, and made to order for me," she says. "It's got a low-drop waist, and the way it was cut was just so beautiful. And it's still in great shape. I've still got the shoes. The shoes are even hard to get on now – my big ol' feet from having babies."
Back to the Future Day celebrates the date hero Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) visited the future in the second installment of the beloved trilogy. Thompson memorably played Marty's mother in the films, and wore that pink dress in the first film when she had no clue the boy she was wooing was actually her son.

Thompson was only 24 when she filmed the first movie, and she admits the beauty of the dress she wore during the dance scene was occasionally overwhelmed by its extreme form-fitting design. "They used to make fun of it [on set] because my boobs kind of spilled out of the top of it – they used to call my boobs the MMs: the Mammoth Mammaries," she laughs.

"When we shot the big dance – the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance – it was so tight, I just took it off," she reveals. "I would wander around in my crinolines and my push-up bra. My mom was just scandalized, because of course there were like hundreds of extras, but I didn't care. I was just walking around without my dress on."

But she loved the dress enough to be allowed to keep one of them when the film wrapped and she kept it carefully stored – which ultimately turned out to be a good thing just a few years later when two back-to-back sequels to the blockbuster hit went into production. "When we did Back to the Future II, they were panicked because they couldn't find it," she reveals. "They had made three, and they had given me one, so I lent it back to them. Actually, they just shipped it out to New York to be on The Today Show."

Like most moms with a treasured dress in the back of their closet, Thompson also couldn't resist showing it off to her daughters, actresses Madelyn and Zoey Deutch, on occasion. "They wanted to wear it for Halloween, but even when they're super skinny and little, it was still tight for them!"

ELECTION 2015: Erin DiBenedetto seeks third term on Medford School Committee

The following are press releases issued by candidates and/or other special interest groups for the city of Medford municipal election. These releases do not reflect the opinions of the Medford Transcript or its staff and are submitted to the newspaper.
Erin Ann DiBenedetto is a proven leader who has the experience and relationships to deliver solid leadership for Medford.
Having served two terms on the Medford School Committee, she will bring her record of fighting for residents and community organizing to our city. As an experienced School Committee member, she will continue to work to make sure everyone in our school district has the opportunity to succeed.
Erin was born in the Winter Hill neighborhood of Somerville, the youngest of five children. Her parents, Joan and Thomas Gorman, instilled in their children the importance of their community and value of education.
Erin moved to Medford in 1987 and married her husband Joe, an East Somerville boy and a union carpenter with Boston Carpenter’s Local 33. They raised their two children, both of which graduated from Medford High School, Joseph, 24, a graduate of Worcester State University, and Katelyn, 22, a recent graduate of Tufts University.
Erin has served the Medford community as vice president Medford High School PTO and co-organizer of Medford Prom Dress Shop, which dressed more than 500 local girls with new or used gowns to wear to prom.
She was a coordinator/fundraiser for MHS Post Prom Party, which kept students safe after their Junior Prom. She enjoyed serving as a Band/Orchestra Parent, Crew Mom and Medford Youth Soccer Coach.
In 2009, Erin decided to run for the Medford School Committee, because all children deserve the best education a city can offer. On the School Committee, she hit the ground running, working with other members of the School Committee to ensure we had a balanced budget without any need for supplemental appropriations.
The committee has creatively and resourcefully developed additional sources of revenue. The planning and implementation of a $3.3 million technology upgrade went beautifully. The science lab at the High School is a major accomplishment.
Medford received $8 dollars from the state for this $14 million project. This project is not only offering the best education for our high school students it is increasing programming for our vocational students.
As a committee, they review new legislation regularly. Erin with the other committee members submitted medical emergency plans, concussions plans and bullying plans to the state. She has been involved in interviewing and hiring new principals and she is always a voice for the parents and the students in our community.
Her job as a Special Education Coordinator, where she advocates for the children of Somerville and Medford, gave her a unique insight into improving our schools. Voters of Medford rewarded Erin’s hard work by re-electing her in citywide elections.
Erin knows from her years of community involvement that some of the best ideas in government come from the neighborhoods — not the bureaucrats. That’s why she is asking for your vote on November 3rd to continue her work for all of our Medford children.

Kate Hudson Wore Embroidered Ensemble To God’s Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards In New York

Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images Entertainment/Getty Images

Kate Hudson is just one of those women that seems to never make a fashion mistake — and I bet she doesn't spill on her whites, either. She's always elegant, chic, and on-trend, especially at the God's Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards, where Kate Hudson wore an embroidered dress and basically confirmed that she's still the effortlessly gorgeous fashionista I've loved since childhood.

I'd say I officially fell in love when I saw her on the big screen as Andie Anderson in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days. I mean, she worked at a fashion magazine and basically played Ben like it was her job (which, actually, it was). Her LBD she wore while picking up Ben with her tiny little purse? I needed it. But no look got me quite like the yellow dress she wore when she sang You're So Vain, and the dramatic climax ensued. I actually ended up wearing basically a carbon copy of that beautiful yellow dress to prom (and to a few weddings, may I add).

And it seems, 12 years later, Hudson is still killin' it. At the God’s Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards held in New York City, Hudson wore a cut out black and white Michael Kors Collection embroidered dress and paired it with yellow Louboutin heels. A combination that I wouldn't think would work, but of course, it does. The pumps are more of a mustard, darker yellow, and looks totally chic with the neutral ensemble.

Eternally obsessed. This dress basically epitomizes everything I love about her style: It's simple, it's understated, it's feminine, and it's above all, chic. I love the front cut out, putting a new spin on the deep v, with a gorgeous delicate collar. Ending right above the knee, this dress is the perfect balance of subtle and sexy.

In honor of Hudson's gorgeous dress, here are some embroidered dresses that are inspired by this killer look.

The most expensive clothing item for women has gone mass market

For epochs, women have spent tons of money on their wedding dresses — and they still do.
According to The Knot's most recent Real Wedding Study, the average wedding dress costs $1,357 — but given the wide disparity between of overall wedding costs (a Manhattan wedding is an average $76,328 and a Utah wedding is an average $15,257), it's likely that there are plenty of brides out there forking over upwards of $2000 on their dresses.

But why do brides spend this much money on dresses that will only be worn once?

This is a divisive question, as some brides will loudly protest that this is the most important day of their lives, that they will proceed to look back on the photographs for eternities upon eternities, and would prefer something that fits like a glove and lets them sparkle in ways that nothing else could.

"It's not just a white dress," wedding dress designer Anne Barge said to NPR.  "It's the fabric, and it's the workmanship, and it's the lining, and it's the fit."

"It's the dress of your life, and if there is ever one picture your [descendants] have of you it's the one in your wedding dress," Barge explained.

Additionally, NPR suggested that going all-out indicated total commitment. Go big, or go home.

Still, other brides deplore the wedding industrial complex, and others are on strict budgets.

But somewhere in between appealing to the defiant bride who doesn't want to fork over thousands of dollars and the highly profitable wedding industry, mass market retailers are selling wedding dresses.
J. Crew hopped on the wedding band in 2004, paving the way for other mass retailers to do the same. Most of the dresses are sold online or in the catalog. The retailer had a boutique on Madison Avenue Manhattan, but now its bridal sales are limited to a bridal salon in its Flatiron location. J.  Crew sells a variety of wedding styles — even jumpsuits.

Jennifer Aniston even reportedly wore a wedding veil from J. Crew, according to Us Weekly.

Ann Taylor has sent brides down the aisle, as well. Ann Taylor dresses are even more modestly priced than J. Crew's — all are under $1,000, many are under $500, and some are under $250.

Even Target has forayed into the wedding industry with its line Tevolio. A wedding dress at Target costs just $52.48.

Anthropologie has a bridal offshoot called BHLDN — but the dresses run on the pricier side, compared to other mass retailers. However, shopping at BHLDN — while potentially comparable price-wise to buying a dress at a boutique — offers stressed-out brides the ease of purchasing the dresses online, as does buying a dress online from any of the aforementioned retailers.

That ideology is behind many of these mass retailer's bridal lines.

"Certainly as women—who are working and living very full lives—are planning a wedding, they're interested in shopping online," Christine Beauchamp, former president of Ann Taylor, said to The Wall Street Journal in 2010.

Wedding experts agree. "Especially for girls in a hurry,  it’s really great because the majority of J. Crew [wedding dresses] is online and in the catalogs," Anne Chertoff, WeddingWire's trend expert, said to Business Insider.

"It's really great and really easy," she added.

And mass market dresses tend to evoke the sentiment of a relaxed bride (which not all brides can confess to be).

But the real heart of the matter is not the dress is mass market, but that there are problems that come with purchasing a wedding dress online.

Chertoff says she encourages brides to go to stores to try dresses on, at the very least.

"I usually encourage people to have that experience even if they're on a budget, you know, if there’s a J. Crew store in their area that sells bridal dresses, if there’s BHLDN [which has bridal boutiques in select markets], or even if it’s David’s Bridal, I think it’s really important that people — if this dress is something that has somewhat of a significance to them — go to a store and try it on," she said. "It’s not like trying a dress that you would wear to work. Bridal sizing is very different." Brides thereby forego receiving experts' advice, she explained, including on how alterations might work.

And it's less emotional.

"By ordering from a catalog, you miss out on that moment and that experience — especially if your mom's still around," she said. "That moment on the television shows — 'Say Yes to The Dress' — even when the cameras aren’t rolling on every single bride, that happens You’re twirling in it! You'll never want to take it off! You'll be beaming in it! ... It's something you'll never forget."

And places like Kleinfeld's specialize in dress for every kind of bride — including the modest bride, as Racked reported — which is something that a mass market retailer may struggle to provide.

Still, budget-minded Learnvest advises cash-strapped brides to look to mass market retailers as a way to save on cash. But Chertoff warns that a traditional retailer's wedding dress might not be so cheap. A J. Crew wedding dress can be $650 — or it can be $2,200. Chertoff advises that brides can pick up discounted designer dresses at David's Bridal without foregoing the experience.

That said, Chertoff concedes, "[buying a dress online is] a really easy way to do it — especially if the dress isn’t the most important thing."

How to Wear Those Barely There Wedding Dresses

When it comes to a wedding dress, how little is too much?

On the bridal catwalks for fall 2016, transparency wound its way from necklines and sleeves to the sides, fronts and backs of gowns. Some dresses were almost entirely transparent. Those choosing to wear one of these more risqué designs will have to plan carefully.

This injection of sexy on the catwalks may reflect today’s more open-minded approach to the institution of marriage.

Naeem Khan said he started designing dresses last season that appear to bare more flesh in response to requests from brides for designs that showcased their figures rather than their innocence.

His new collection had gowns of embroidery covering sheer, skin-colored fabric. “It’s a bride’s biggest red-carpet moment,” he said, “and you should be looking like a billion dollars.”

Around half the brides who buy the designer Pnina Tornai’s dramatic gowns with illusion bodices ask for opaque nude-colored panels of fabric to be inserted into the bodice, according to Terry Hall, fashion director at Kleinfeld Bridal in New York. This gives them the same sleek look without showing as much skin, Mr. Hall said. And in doing so, it helps appease more tradition-minded parents and other relatives.

Similarly, Don O’Neill, whose 1920s-opium-den-inspired collection for Theia was one of the season’s most provocative shows, suggests that if the bride doesn’t want to bare all, she can add a nude organza layer, a silk georgette lining or a bodysuit under his more transparent dresses.

As they prepare for their glamour moment, many brides appear to be taking their cues directly from the red carpet.

Although Kristin DeJohn, 32, said she was “going for glamorous right off the bat” — having been inspired by the sleek chic of Jennifer Lopez’s red-carpet style — she ended up with two dresses for her marriage in September last year.

For the couple’s Greek Orthodox ceremony in Greenlawn, N.Y., she wore a more traditional gown with flowing fabric by J. Mendel. But for the Catholic marriage blessing ceremony two days later, at Oheka Castle in Huntington, N.Y., she wore a heavily beaded dress by the Israeli designer Lihi Hod. She liked its plunging back, with matching low-cut front, sheer panels and semitransparent arms. She said it felt natural to wear the racier number for the second ceremony.

Sarah Dihmes, 32, tried on almost 100 wedding dresses before her September 2014 wedding on the Amalfi Coast in Italy. “I wanted something sexy to show off my curves,” she said. “It feels very conservative to be all in white.”

She admired the way Israeli designers incorporated nude-colored fabric into their designs, and fell in love with a strapless Mira Zwillinger dress, which fell to an inch above her knees and had nude fabric peeking out from heavy lace and flowers.

But in the end, she decided she wanted something more conventional for the ceremony after all. “I wasn’t sure if I wanted that sexy of a dress in a picture that would last forever, that my grandchildren would be seeing,” she said. So she wore that Zwillinger dress to the rehearsal dinner and a less revealing Ines Di Santo gown with a mermaid cut for the wedding.

Another option for adding modesty to a dress with transparent sections is donning a long veil for the ceremony and removing it for the reception, said Julie Sabatino from the Stylish Bride, a wedding fashion stylist in New York. In a nod to the popularity of bridal dresses with detachable skirts, she also suggested having an overskirt in tulle or silk organza made as an addition to dresses dominated by transparency.

Nevertheless, even in the face of this zest for skin-hugging, barely there fabrics, full voluminous skirts were seen in collections by Marchesa and Naeem Khan.

“They can exist alongside each other,” said Mark Ingram of Mark Ingram Atelier. “Now you have the option to be the angel or the devil.”

Here comes the bride! Beirut-born designer Zuhair Murad has outfitted Modern Family actress Sofía Vergara for Oscar and Golden Globe bashes. Now, in the new issue of Us Weekly, a Vergara source says the star has entrusted the couturier with the most important party dress of all: her wedding gown!

Vergara, 43, will wear a custom-made, fairy-tale frock to wed fiancé Joe Manganiello on Nov. 22 at the Breakers Resort in Palm Beach, Fla. The duo has been engaged since the Magic Mike XXL hunk popped the question in Hawaii last December — even reciting his proposal speech to the Colombian-born beauty in Spanish.

One of the couple’s first wedding-planning challenges was narrowing down the guest list. Vergara told Jimmy Kimmel on Sept. 14 that the guest list number is around 400, joking, “200 are, like, my family.”

The pair recently sent out luxurious 8-by-8-inch invitations for the affair. “They’re classy and white,” says the source. “It cost around $7 to mail each one!” Guests will be treated to a Saturday night cocktail reception, followed by the couple's vows on Sunday, planned by celebrity wedding consultant Mindy Weiss.

Among the guests will be the bride-to-be’s Modern Family costars, including Julie Bowen, who told Us Sept. 18 that Manganiello, 38, is “like a caveman” with Vergara. “It’s sexy! I love it,” she said. "She’s so strong, and so [used to] calling the shots all the time, and then you see them together and there’s a part of her that kind of melts. It just warms your heart when you see that, because it’s not all the time that you can tell that there’s an aspect to this relationship that’s very -- how shall we say? -- primal.”

While Vergara told Martha Stewart Weddings that there will be a “special” cake table with “a big wedding cake and lots of desserts,” there won’t be a gift table: According to the insider, the couple have requested donations to Vergara’s beloved St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And as for pre-wedding jitters? There are none, the source says: “Sofia isn’t nervous at all. She can’t wait to walk down the aisle and be with him forever.”

Palatine High School Holds Prom Dress Drive

Palatine High School is currently collecting new and gently used formal dresses for the "Say Yes to the Dress at PHS" program. Dresses will be collected after the Homecoming and Spring Fling dances at Palatine High School. Distribution of the dresses will take place in the spring, in time for girls to "shop" for prom dresses.

Dresses will be accepted from October 19 to October 30 from 7:45am to 4:00pm at the main office at Palatine High School, 1111 North Rohlwing Road, Palatine. A second dress collection period will be held after the Spring Fling Dance from March 31 to April 4. To help promote the event, a "Say Yes to the Dress at PHS" flyer was created by Palatine High School student Alicja Babicz.

According to Joyce Richardson, one of the PHS staff members working on the project, "We want this to be a program from which all girls will benefit. No one needs to spend $700 on a Prom dress, and we certainly do not want the cost to prohibit anyone from enjoying their Prom. Our goal is to outfit as many girls as possible and use a minimal fee to generate more opportunities in the future for our students to come."

When asked for their support, the PHS Pirate Boosters joined the project immediately. Alissa DePue, Booster Club co-president, said "Whenever we are asked to support the Palatine High School community, whether it is a student, staff member, or department, we are more than willing to help. This opportunity provides an affordable option for those who wish to attend an exciting high school event and we are happy to be a part of it."

Carey and Helena Bonham Carter said the protest, which the group said was inspired by the suffragettes, was the 'perfect response' to the movie's message.
The period drama tells the story of the British women's suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th century, with Meryl playing British suffragette leader Emmeline Pankhurst.
Carey's character Maud Watts is a working wife and mother whose life is forever changed when she is secretly recruited to join the UK's growing suffragette movement led by Pankhurst.
Suffragette is out now in the UK and hits cinemas in the US on October 23.
